Gaizka Alboniga-Menor, a 21-year-old midfielder who spent his development at Athletic Club, has signed with Castellón B on a free transfer. The player, who left a lasting impression in the youth ranks, is now set to focus on his next chapter in the lower divisions.
Alboniga-Menor spent almost his entire development at Lezama, progressing from alevín level through to the end of the last season. During three campaigns in Basconia, Athletic's second reserve side, he gained experience and fought for promotion to the Segunda Federación in consecutive years. Promotion finally came in the second attempt, with Alboniga-Menor scoring six goals and establishing himself as a key figure in the team.
His form also earned him a debut in the Primera Federación with Bilbao Athletic, where he featured in two matchdays before returning to Basconia. In his first season in the Segunda RFEF, he added another six goals, underlining his threat from midfield.
His standout youth year came at the juvenil level, when he scored nine goals in the national top tier.
Although the transfer was made official this afternoon, Alboniga-Menor attended the friendly between Castellón B and Atlético Saguntino, which ended with a scoreline of 1-3 in favor of the visitors. He also trained alone on the Gaetà Huguet pitches in Castellón, taking his first steps as part of the albinegro setup.
Alboniga-Menor's transfer to Castellón B is on loan, and the player is expected to bring experience and goals to the formation of Castellón B in the upcoming season.
