Athletic Bilbao begins its fifth week of vacation, the last but one of the summer. Tomorrow will mark exactly one month since they played their last official match of the 2025-26 season at the Bernabéu.

What's happening with the preseason?

The preseason of the lions, with the novelty of an Edin Terzic who is already at work, has taken shape in recent days. The red-and-white squad will start on Monday, July 6 with the usual medical, physical, and physiological tests before starting to sweat and will complete the first session on the grass at Lezama on the 8th.

What friendlies are confirmed?

There are five friendlies confirmed to date. Terzic wanted an intense preparation with many games to increase the observation sample as much as possible in order to see a large number of players and also to conduct tests with the drawing or positions.

What gaps are left to fill?

But there are several gaps that Athletic still needs to fill in their preseason schedule, especially they need to discover the matches against the most powerful rivals. There is only one friendly match closed against a top-tier team, Racing, which will take place on Wednesday, July 29 in Laredo.

What's next for Athletic Bilbao?

With the calendar in hand, there would be room to fit in three more matches. One between the matches against River and Racing and two more in August, already in the final stretch of preparation. On that list, a date remains to be scheduled for the final of the EH Txapela against Real Sociedad.
