Athletic Bilbao and Barakaldo are parting ways, for now. The two clubs have not reached a common point to renew the agreement that kept the gualdinegro team as a subsidiary.

What happened?

The factory entity expressed a while back the need for improvements in conditions -economic and structural- with which Athletic compensated for its subsidiary status. And since these have not been given, Barakaldo has not renewed the agreement.

Why is it important for Athletic Bilbao?

The leaders of Barakaldo have maintained a position that is not comfortable for the Vizcayan clubs, as they rarely stand up to Athletic. But the Lasesarre club has maintained the idea that it conveyed in previous meetings with the Board of Directors chaired by Uriarte.

What comes next?

The non-renewal of the agreement does not mean that the relationship with Athletic has been broken. For now, it has only been strained, although the possibility of an agreement is attractive to clubs in the closest environment and also to others in the First Division that cast nets in several provinces. | Date | Event | | --- | --- | | Two decades ago | Arenas broke with Athletic and linked up with Real Sociedad | | Present | Barakaldo is studying its best alternative | So Barakaldo, which has been a gateway to Athletic for several players, is now looking for its best option.
