Athletic Bilbao is getting a fresh start with new coaches. Edin Terzic is replacing Ernesto Valverde at the helm of the team, Víctor Martín is taking over for Javi Lerga with the women's team, and Bittor Llopis is moving up from Basconia to replace Jokin Aranbarri with Bilbao Athletic.
What's happening?
German coach Edin Terzic will be taking over the team at 43 years old, while Ernesto Valverde turned 62 last February. The women's team will be coached by a very young Víctor Martín, who is only 33 years old.
Why is this important for Athletic Bilbao?
The age difference between Jokin Aranbarri and Bittor Llopis is smaller, but the Getxo native is still younger than the Azkoitia native. Beñat San José had renewed his contract with Eibar until 2027, but when Rayo called, he exercised the clause in his contract to coach the Vallecano team in the First Division.
What's next?
Guipuzcoan Bittor Llopis is moving up the ranks in one of the surprise moves of the summer. This opened up an opportunity for Jokin Aranbarri to return to the club. The Azkoitia native joined the Athletic Bilbao academy in 2016.
