Football is everything when not everything is football, is the motto chosen by the red-and-white club to present this new project of Athletic Fundazioa together with BBK, driven by the Haszten Association. This initiative is born with the aim of using sports, football in this case, as a social tool to form groups, create relationships and give opportunities to these people with motorized wheelchairs. What seemed like a distant goal today is a reality, indicates Koldo Bilbao, responsible for People and Culture of BBK. In addition, once again, Athletic goes beyond football, making a showcase to know the sports activity in this collective. The current team is formed by seven players, although they hope that more and more members will join in the future. As any other person, we have dreamed of scoring goals with the Athletic jersey, indicates Iker Solaun, one of the players. The rest of the members are: Alfaro, Unai Demi, Peio, Xabier, Murphy and Sandonís. Pablo Hernández, General Coordinator of Haszten, admits being excited and enthusiastic about this initiative. He also emphasizes the importance of the players themselves taking the decisions. It's something to be proud of, he adds. Powerchair Football has a similar regulation to the football we all know. However, it has its own peculiarities. Players compete in teams, usually with four players on the field, using their motorized wheelchairs to control, pass and hit a large ball of about 33 cm in diameter. One of the notable aspects is that a metal protector called footguard is installed on the front of the chair, which serves to push the ball.
